Clean & Care Guide

Cleaning and Maintenance of Bamboo and Rattan Products

Bamboo and rattan products are natural handicrafts that require special care and maintenance. Here are some methods for cleaning and maintaining bamboo and rattan products

1.Keep them dry: Bamboo and rattan products are prone to absorbing water, which can cause deformation or mold growth. Therefore, when using bamboo and rattan products, avoid contact with water as much as possible, and keep them in a well-ventilated, dry place.

2.Avoid direct sunlight: Bamboo and rattan products can be damaged by direct sunlight, so try to avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight.

3.Regular cleaning: Bamboo and rattan products need to be cleaned regularly to remove dust and dirt. When cleaning, use a soft brush or cloth to gently wipe, and avoid using a brush or hard objects that could scratch the surface of the bamboo or rattan.

4.Prevent pests: Bamboo and rattan products are prone to insect infestation, so when storing them, avoid placing them in damp or sun-drenched areas, and store them in a well-ventilated, dry place. In addition, you can use some insect repellents or bamboo charcoal to prevent insect infestation.

5.Apply maintenance oil: You can apply some maintenance oil or wax to bamboo and rattan products regularly to maintain their luster and durability. When choosing oil, it is recommended to choose pure natural vegetable oil or wax, and avoid using cleaning agents or maintenance oils containing chemical ingredients. Commonly used vegetable oils include olive oil, flaxseed oil, sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, etc., while wax options include beeswax, honey wax, or wood wax.

When using oil to maintain bamboo and rattan products, first clean the surface of the product, then pour a moderate amount of oil onto a clean cloth and evenly apply it to the surface of the product. After the oil is completely absorbed, use a clean cloth to wipe it clean. It is recommended to perform oil maintenance on bamboo and rattan products every six months to a year.

How to clean bamboo and rattan products that have mold

1.To clean them, you can use either alcohol or white vinegar. Pour the chosen solution into a spray bottle, and evenly apply it onto the surface of the moldy product. Let it sit for a while, and then wipe it clean with water.

2.Another option is to use saltwater. Mix salt into warm water until it's dissolved, and then soak the bamboo or rattan product in the solution for some time. After that, rinse it with clean water and let it dry.

3.A third choice is to use bleach. Dilute it with water, put the product in the solution for a while, then take it out, rinse it with clean water and let it dry.

No matter which method you choose, avoid rubbing too hard or using a rough brush or cloth to prevent damaging the surface of the product. Once the cleaning is finished, ensure the product is fully dried and placed in a well-ventilated and dry area to avoid mold growth.
